These Days
I've been out walking
I don't do too much talking these days
These days
These days I seem to think alot
About the things that I forgot to do
And all the times I had
A chance to
I stop my rambling
I don't do too much gambling these days
These days
These days I seem to think a lot
How all the changes came about my way
And I wonder if I'd see another
Highway
I had a lover
I don't think I'd risk another these days
These days
And if I seem to be afraid
To live the life that I have made in song
It's just that I've been losing
So long
I'd stop my dreaming
I won't do too much scheming these days
These days
These days I sit at corner stones
And count the time the quarter turns to ten
Please don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them

"Now It Is All Over, Like The Birds"
(photo by Daniel Peterson from Urban Honking)So, going back to work the other day, after lunch, I pulled up to a red light. I see a big, black bird lying in the middle of the road. I can't help but look at the bird. I'm wondering how a bird gets hit by a car. Or are birds too quick for that? Did it get shocked by the power lines and just fall? Straight down? I don't know how these things happen. So I look down at this poor bird and I see it lying on it's back. Legs up in the air. It's not dead. It's head and eyes moving back and forth, just wondering how it got itself in this horrible mess. Not making any sounds, it's body not moving. Just it's head and eyes, looking up at the sky. But it's alive! The red light seemed so long. I had an eternity to decide that I would at least move the bird to a better place. If it did get hit by a car, or whatever, I was going to try and make things more comfortable. I got out and picked up the silent bird. Tucking it's wings to it's body. We stared at each other, silently, as I walked to the side of the road. I laid it down behind a telephone pole in the long grass and weeds and said goodbye. I was nine minutes late getting back from lunch, just like the day before, and the day before that.
I went back the next day. The bird was gone.

Drinking At The Dam. Holding Back What It Can. Drinking At The Dam. Holding Back What I Can
I remember drinking at the dam
With the jarheads on the other side
Warm beer and tearing up the cans
And all of us yelling abuse
Cutting school to go drinking at the dam
Skinmags in the brambles
For the first part of my life
I thought women had orange skin
It was the first part of my life
Second is the rest
And now teenage warchests fill
And do the dirty dirty work
It was the first part of their lives
Drinking at the dam
Holding back what It can
But the power is so much
Drinking at the dam
Holding back what I can
I’m just drinking at the dam
I’m just drinking at the dam

Bob Dylan's 49th Beard
You'll be happier when I'm gone
I'm much too busy to worry
I'll be sad and you'll feel bad
But I know you won't be sorry
And as I turn to go
Please don't wave goodbye
I refuse to cry
On roads that are paved
With men who behave
Like they know where they're goin'
And I'll stop along the way
And it's then I'll think of you
And I'll wonder if you knew
When I got blue
And things got weird
And I started growing

The Flaming Lips
Krystin & I went and saw The Flaming Lips again. They've reminded me that no matter how old I get, balloons and confetti will always make me happy. So, so happy.

This photo reminds me of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. All the glowing red light and the pulling of hearts from chests......
